for all, but especially for Herlock

    A puzzle for you.

I recently returned from a short trip to Malaga (it was delightful, thank you). While wandering aimlessly around the old town, I came across a pub called Sherlock Holmes. How odd, I thought. to find a pub with this name in Spain. Today, I googled Sherlock Holmes pub followed by a european country, and found a Sherlock Holmes pub or restaurant in every country I checked. So I tried Russia, China, Japan, Canada, Malaysia and Australia - all had at least one too. So far, having checked a number of countries across the world, I have only found one country that does not return a result.

    So two questions:

    a) is Sherlock Holmes, as a pub/restaurant, a name used in more countries than any other name,
    b) are there any countries that do not have a bar or restaurant named Sherlock Holmes (Singapore appears to be one such country)

Interesting, I did a quick search and it didn't bring one up in New Zealand.

      Interesting stuff.
I think perhaps the intention of pubs having that name is to give a sense of familiarity to lure the average English speaking holiday maker in, you’ll find pubs called The Oliver Twist in tourist areas too.

I always like a challenge, especially one that involves good food and camaraderie.

This, I found in Addison, Texas, a community north of Dallas. Sherlock's Baker St. Pub & Grill - Pub in Addison, TX (sherlockspub.com)

I have never been to this establishment, but the wraps on the menu look good.

        Cheers

I double checked, found some interest in Sherlock Holmes in New Zealand, but no pub or restaurant. That makes two countries now.

I think you are probably right, Yabs.

I have now found a third country with no Sherlock Holmes pub (based solely on a google search). It is extremely unlikely that there would be no Sherlock Holmes pub in this country, and yet no returns on a Sherlock Holmes pub or restaurant search. Given how common the name worldwide, I'm astonished. I think I need to look a little harder before announcing this country for fear of being labelled foolish.
