Tambling played from 1958-1970 and scored 202 goals. He was a formidable striker.

Lampard however, is a midfield player.

Lampard is one of my favourite players, even though I do not support a Premiership club.

I remember his father, Frank senior, playing for West Ham in the 1970s. In those days, not so many girls/women followed football and there was a group of us girls in east London who loved football and who went with our brothers and male friends. Because, in those days, football was a very rough game for fans and players, we always went to see games in a crowd and for that reason we saw West Ham, Leyton Orient and Spurs because those were the local teams that most of us supported. I favoured Leyton Orient.

Nowadays, not having lived in London for almost 25 years, I support Peterborough United.

However, I am always delighted to watch a decent game whatever the club (well, I draw the line at Arsenal) and Frank junior always give an excellent performance. Not only that, but he's nice to look at.

I remember George Graham trying to buy him for Spurs before he signed for Chelsea.Pity he couldnt. Very good player,but Imo lacked a little something that would have made him a truly GREAT player. As for Bobby Tambling ,another good but again,not a great player, reliable,consistent but none the less a good team member. Chelsea's greatest players probabley belonged to the Osgood, Hutchinson And Charlie cooke era if one doesnt include Jimmy greaves who wasnt a first team player for long. While Lampard has been a tremendous asset to Chelsea I doubt he would be included in any best of British X1 of the last 25 years ,and certainly not of the last 35-40 years or before (before that being before my time )

I'm glad Frank finally realised that he can do something with his left foot other than stand on it. Seriously, I agree his is a great achievement for a midfield player. He'll be a great loss to Chelsea. If Abramovich doesn't give him a new contract someone else will snap him up.

I was delighted to see Frank break the record. I hope he gets the new contract at Chelsea. He's indispensable to the club and clearly can still play at the highest level. He should finish his career at Stamford Bridge.

Top player Frank, he has just appeared on BBC news talking about the match v the Republic of Ireland tonight, he is one of the few England players who can string a sentence together.
I would like to see him get involved in the England set up, bright lad, which has sometimes worked against him playing for England, as he can see problems developing and fills in for wingers not tracking back, or giving a player a little tap on the halfway line when Gerrard has gone missing upfield.
As a result he plays across rather than box to box, and it's said 'Lampard had a quiet game' or 'he can't play with Gerrard', from those who only ever follow the ball.
I wish that shot had gone in in the Europa final,would have been fitting.
