Just got it from Strand Magazine! Great art and marked with Holmesian dates, such as The Great Detective's birthday ( Jan. 5, 1854)
Just a heads up to any consulting detective who is interested!

There’s no picture attached Pat. I’m wondering if that’s just a typo as Holmes birthday is considered to be January 6th 1854.
    Regards

    Sir Herlock Sholmes.

Not a typo; but my poor eyesight read it wrong! It is on 6th, after all, so don't write them about it, lol. My fault, entirely.

Did Sherlock Holmes ever die? Like James Bond did recently. I think I remember him going over a waterfall. I also think I remember reading a book where JTR turned out to be Sherlock Holmes he died at the end too. Was there ever an official end to Sherlock. We know he was born on January 6th, 1854 does the character have an official death date?

Also, is there an official writer for new Holmes stories like John Gardner was for James Bond.

          I love the Holmes character.

            Hi, Celee.

The story you describe about the waterfall was called "The Final Problem", and was Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's attempt to "kill off" his most popular character, which he felt was taking up too much of his writing time.

Neither his publisher nor his fans approved of this decision, so Holmes eventually returned in a story called "The Adventure of the Empty House." More stories followed. The last story by Conan Doyle was called "His Last Bow", and had Holmes and Watson both older men on the brink of The Great War (World War I, as later generations would call it), facing off against German spies.

Officially, Holmes was said to have retired to raise bees. There isn't an official story of his death by Doyle, but see the 2015 film "Mr. Holmes" starring Ian McKellen as an elderly, forgetful Holmes. It has the closest thing to a death for our hero.

No one person was the official writer of new Sherlock Holmes stories, because so many other authors have since taken up pen and keyboard to document "unknown adventures" of Holmes and Watson. The earliest new stories were by Doyle's son, Adrian. After that, many writers and fans gave us new adventures of the duo. And the movies and television dramas also added to the legend.

I think Holmes and Watson will *never* die, because our collective imagination keeps them forever living at 221B Baker Street.

And yes, Holmes has had his run-ins with both Jack the Ripper and Count Dracula, among other villains.
