  • So You Thought Sam Cooke Was Mellow!

Yesterday I bought a Sam Cooke album, "One Night Stand: Sam Cooke Live at the Harlem Square Club 1963".

I have a few Sam Cooke albums, but I didn't have an album of Sam live.

This is a blistering album, a hundred miles away from the smooth mellow recordings that his record company insisted that he churn out.
Great as those recordings are, they aren't a patch on this remarkable performance.

"I want my baaaaby, oooooh, I want my baby!I wanna tell you that: Darling, yooooou, ooooooooohhh!!!!You send me, oooooohhh, yoooouu!!!!Ooooooohhhhh!!! You se...

          Thanks for this DJA.

Yeah, the band are really tight.

They must have been exhausted after the Harlem Square Club gig, trying to keep pace with Sam, and wondering where the hell he was going with each song.
It reminds me of the great Van Morrison live album "It's Too Late To Stop Now", where his band were on tenterhooks trying to keep pace with Van.

              Hadn't heard this one before.
Burdon had a really soulful voice, and he makes it look so easy.
