  • Concert in Texas resulted in mass fatalties

This rap concert by Houston Texas happened a few days ago and resulted in a crowd surge that killed eight people, injured hundreds. The tragedy was that it was billed as an all-ages events, and some dead and seriously injured were kids.

I recall reading here about the soccer match event similar to this some years ago, and now I think I understand your emotions.

The problems at Atroworld were that the performers ignored shouts from the crowd that people were suffering. I guess the singer observed a man collapsing and halted the set briefly to get him help, but then continued. Now it seems the local policemen near the stage also ignored the crisis for a quarter of an hour prior to it being declared "a mass fatality event".

People are awful sometimes, aren't they?

The death toll is nine, not eight. I think the trampled 9-year-old boy who was in the hospital in a medical coma was likely the newest victim. The video showed tonight on the news of the wild stampede over barriers at the entry gate is disgusting. No security control at all.

I presume your referring to Hillsborough? That's a different matter altogether, the day was a horrific tragedy, but the way the media and the authorities demonised the victims, blamed them and set about promoting some truly awful lies is really where that deep seated emotion lies.

A similar thing happened at a Who gig in the 70's. The event security did nothing, and the local PD refused to act as they claimed it wasn't their responsibility. Again, the victims were young. History repeating itself.

Yes, I hadn't heard of the Hillsborough tragedy until reading about it here. Fascinating that there was so much covering up of the circumstances. Sorry it was such a disaster.

Music concerts have had crowding problems for years, but little seems to be done about it. Saw a discussion today from witnesses who said the placement of barriers on either side of the stage meant crowd members had no where to go but backwards if they became distressed. One person who was in the crowd said the audience was packed so tightly that if he put his arms up, he couldn't lower them again.

it is just ridiculous that the pursuit of money is above common safety concerns. Sad.
