I don't see why we can't keep mask wearing on public transport and in shops, but no, we have to drop the lot - England is alone in this, neither Scotland nor Wales agree. It's a minor inconvenience in reality and help to suppress case numbers. The decision by the 'government' to throw the baby out with the bathwater seems to be purely ideological - unless it wants to encourage mass infection in the pursuit of herd immunity of course. Los Angeles County, California (the largest county in the U.S.) is reinstating its mask mandate requiring the wearing of masks indoors even for people who have been vaccinated.
Los Angeles County, the nation’s most populous county, will reinstate its mask mandate starting 11:59 p.m. Saturday night amid a rise in coronavirus cases and hospitalizations.

All this conspiracy nonsense plays into it too, both in the UK & US, people come up with thee most ridiculous excuses why they shouldn't, or don't need to get the jab.
Right now in Canada, I think the US & UK are pretty much the same, 99.5% (approx) of the people in hospital with this virus are the unvaccinated. Maybe it's getting to the point that these knobheads should be charged for their care - why should the ordinary tax-payer pay to get them well, they've done this to themselves, and now they end up in hospital. I have no sympathy for them, they're becoming a burden on society now.
In the US the unvaccinated are more likely Republican knobheads. The silver lining is - less republican votes for the next election, which can only be a plus for that country.
Johnson's decision is inexplicable, unless he's looking to appease the rebel element in Britain. If this virus takes off again in the UK he'll blame the public for not 'doing the right thing'.Last edited by Wickerman; 07-17-2021, 02:39 AM.Regards, Jon S.

I totally agree.
Johnson is just courting populist approval with this decision.
I'm all for personal responsibility, but in this case, our track record of abiding by the restrictions (even when mandated) is appalling.
Sure, those deaths are ostensibly going to be among people who refused the vaccine, so they've done it to themselves, but that won't exclusively be the case.
I'm double vaxxed but still intend to keep doing my twice weekly lateral flow test, wearing my mask and washing my hands.
Whilst I completely agree that the anti-vax brigade are a bunch of ill-informed knobheads, I still don't want to be personally responsible for transmitting the virus and potentially killing some of them!
I'm hoping Scotland are going to be a bit more prudent on this rather than just waiting the standard two / three week period then following England off the cliff!

Hello Ms Diddles.
A very wise attitude.
Unfortunately the majority of the death toll being amongst the non vaccinated doesn’t appear to be the case, in the last reliable statistic I read, between 50-60% of the Delta related deaths in the uk have been double jabbed.
I’m very Pro jab and this isn’t as alarming as it first appears.
If 100% of people in the uk were vaccinated then 100% of deaths from that point onwards would had been double jabbed.

A lot is to do with information. I was talking with my elderly neighbour, 80s and she was surprised to learn that you can still catch covid even after being double jabbed and could still get seriously ill. The chances of dying are much less than having no vaccine but I’m increasingly seeing posts on social media from people who think they are totally immune. The Government has done nothing to educate people on the risks, however low of long covid and covid.
Johnson has been bigging up ‘freedom day’ when he knows thousands will be very sick and die, he said it. It’s reckless in the extreme when stalling for a couple of months and vaccinating the rest of the population, including teens could be completed avoiding sickness and misery for thousands.
The NHS vaccination programme has been a huge success but these idiots are just throwing that advantage away for a publicity stunt. Ironically Javid the health secretary is now isolating because he has covid and because Johnson has met him in the last 48 hrs he may have to too.
Both isolating on ‘freedom day’, the day many millions of people have to start reshielding.

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/vaccines-highly-effective-against-b-1-617-2-variant-after-2-dosesNew study by PHE shows for the first time that 2 doses of the COVID-19 vaccines are highly effective against the B.1.617.2 variant first identified in India.

Can’t we just find an island for the unvaccinated COVID cases? Just dump them all on there like a leper colony and drop in basic food items by helicopter to last them 6 months. Then from this point on anyone that refuses the vaccine, with absolutely no exceptions, gets sent to the island (along with anyone that they’re likely to reproduce with). And perhaps to aid them in honing their survival skills we should drop in a few lions? In a couple of years time if the lions haven’t eaten the morons then cannibalism will naturally have broken out anyway. Problem solved.

It amazes me that people will not trust information coming from doctors and experts in the spread of infectious disease but have no problem giving credence to what they are told by neighbors and conspiracy websites.
When you watch the news and they talk about the spread of the new Delta variant and places where it is highly prevalent and hospital admissions are way up and then correlate those places to where the vaccination rates are lowest I don't think you have to be a Mensa candidate to see the connection.

My only reservation is that I feel kinda bad for the poor lions shipped in and marooned on the island.
They really don't deserve that.
I'd be more comfortable with a Battle Royale scenario where everyone is armed and made to participate in a battle to the death.
Last man standing will have had time to reflect on the error of their ways, discovered that they really want to live and wins a double dose of Pfizer for their efforts.
This negates the animal cruelty issue nicely.
