Hello All. Burns night is tomorrow. Eat lots of haggis and toast the ladies with a very old single malt.

    Cheers.

    Hi Lynn

    Watched Youtube with interest...

It is indeed fortunate that there is a Gibberish:English translation provided by the subtitles...I'd actually much like to see the original Yiddish version as written by the great Rabbi Berns(tein), but sadly that seems to be no longer with us...

Seriously I love this time of year...for the next week or two following Burns Night there'll be reduced price haggis available at all sorts of outlets, which I generally buy up and stash away...I have to confess a great love of the haggis (a real feast), not to mention the old gold watch...and as far as I'm able to ascertain (despite old family stories) there's no scottish ancestry...

Every good wish to you on Burns Night Lynn, and all other expatriate scots

    All the best

    Dave

Hello Dave. Thanks. And for good measure, the Mrs. baked a pudding for dessert. I knew I was wise to see that marriage counselor, what was his name? Ah yes, the Wee Cooper o' Fife. (heh-heh)

      Cheers.

              Hello Neil. Thanks.

Funny you should mention that. Had a student from the UK who told me that she "cowers in the kitchen" at the thought of haggis or blood pudding.

              I can nae believe it!

              Cheers.

I have tried it. Which is why I say ewwww. Scotland's fabulous except for the food. That's pretty much the UK for me. But thank god for the curry and thai shops and sandwich stores on every corner, forgot what they are called, but they keep me from starving when I visit!

I very rarely make judgments on stuff without at least having sampled it.
Except for stuff like jellied eels. I can just go ahead and make a declarative ewww on that without the sampling. ewwww

                  Hi Neil

I assume by White Pudding you're referring to what the Janners call "Hogs Pudding" - Now you're really talking...forget about square sausages (which are merely OK) but "Hogs Pudding" is special!

                    Hello Ally. Thanks.

Was it MacSween's or a lesser brand?

                    Cheers.

I really don't know. It was in a restaurant so whether they made it themselves or did a Sysco-esque mass-produced product, I could not say.

I am generally firmly anti-organ consumption, especially those designed to filter waste or other pollutants from the body (like with kidneys, all I can think is "these are pee organs!!! PEE ORGANS!") , but I do give it a go at least now and again to sample a national cuisine.

Ah, haggis -- as THE poet put it, "chieftain of the puddin' race." And I would rate highly a mealie puddin, not to mention pies, Forfar bridies and potted heid, which my grandmother used to make. But then I was raised on all those treats -- and no snide comments that is what put me in hospital.

                        Don.

                          Potted head?? Of what?

                          Actually...... hmmm...yeah; don't tell me.

                            A Bottle And Friend

There's nane that's blest of human kind,
But the cheerful and the gay, man,
                            Fal, la, la, &c.

Here's a bottle and an honest friend!
What wad ye wish for mair, man?
Wha kens, before his life may end,
What his share may be o' care, man?

Then catch the moments as they fly,
And use them as ye ought, man:
                            Believe me, happiness is shy,
And comes not aye when sought, man.

Hmm, so no steak and kidney pie for you either? Very well, I'll eat your portion. (heh-heh)
