Hiya Magpie, always on here but don't contribute very often. I try to leave the serious stuff up to the experts.

        Hi Gizmo and Magpie

You both may or may not know that the RCA dog was named "Nipper."

A few years ago, I wrote a poem about Nipper, and posted it here in a 2005 thread. See below

        Best regards

        Chris

        ****************

        His Master's Voice

"Daddy, is he talking into the trumpet?

"Dog looking at and listening to a Phonograph"
Francis Barraud entitled his painting when Mark,
his brother, and Mark's bull terrier were dead.

An actual dog born at the time of Jack the Ripper,
only this is Nipper not Ripper, known for nipping
the backs of people's legs and for chasing rats

and pheasants in Richmond Park. Is he listening
--or talking to his master in the after life?
The dog's silent howl, ear cocked to listen.

The label on a 78 going round and round.

And not too long ago we were discussing Jack Russell the Ripper, Terrier of Whitechapel...
The early bird might get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

Will in my book, little nipper is a much more likely candidate that Vincent Van Gough!

(Wait a minute though, isn't he supposed to have placed dead dogs around Mary Kelly's body? Oh Blimey! There WAS more than one Jack after all!!)

Like the poem, Chris! I remember the RCA logo with fondness--most of my favourite artists in the eighties seemed to be on RCA (David Bowie in particular) and my tape collection had a huge line of unbroken gramophone sniffing pooches

Knowing the excitable temperament of Jack Russells, you reckon they put sausages down that horn?

                  All the best
