I think these past few years have seen a real decline in democracy and respect for democracy as a system. The Trump fan versions of reality in the US, Scotland's fight in the UK, Catalonia in Spain, parts of the EU becoming more authoritarian and of course some countries working to undermine the whole philosophy. Things have changed slightly recently, for the better, and I hope we see a resurgence.
As for God getting involved - its long been a method to try and give a point of view/movement credibility. I would hope most would not take these claims seriously.
