  • Mask Rant

Just got back from getting my second Covid vaccine shot. I am so pissed when I see ***holes with no masks or a mask which is only covering their mouth but not their nose and of course my favorite the mask worn around the neck. I know some people have medical issues which prevents them from wearing a mask and those are not always apparent. So okay they get a pass. And I absolutely hate those fools who spout **** about their constitutional rights. Well guess what pal? The virus doesn't give a rat's ass about your rights. I don't like wearing a mask but really how fricken difficult is it to do so? Seriously? Idiots.

Ok. Rant over. c.d is in a foul mood. Just put on the damn mask.

Here is some good advice which I read - Hold on to the card which shows you have been vaccinated. More than likely these are going to have to be shown at some point in the future for any number of things. (hey, talk about the Mark of the Beast). Better yet, make a copy or copies of it or photograph it.

What people seem to forget, or at least ignore, is that coupled with those personal rights are personal responsibilities. Wearing a mask isn't infringing upon someone's rights, it's fulfilling their responsibility. The anti-masker's just want to have their cake and eat it too.

          Agreed!

Nobody enjoys wearing a mask, but it's hardly making a huge personal sacrifice!

It has nothing to do with your "constitutional rights"

It's just about being a decent human being and doing as much as possible to protect other people and prevent spread.

It genuinely shocks me how people can be so thoughtless and self-absorbed.

Hope you're ok after your second shot of Lucifer Seed, c.d!

I observed at work that more people seemed to feel a bit rubbish after the second jag than after the first.

It passed really quickly though and everyone was feeling fine 48 hours later.

There doesn’t appear to be a vocal anti-seatbelt campaign and they have been mandatory for nearly 40 years in the U.K? Motor cycle helmets have been law for nearer 50 years without a movement for their abolition? I can’t recall seeing any street protests against the restrictions of The Health And Safety At Work Act (1974)? So it’s surprising to say the least that some ‘heroes for freedom’ are so against the temporary wearing of face masks for the prevention of spreading a virus that has killed 127,000 in the U.K. I assume that they would be completely against the infringement of their rights on the isolating of bubonic plague victims should an epidemic of the Black Death return? I’m sure that they would be willing to provide a bed for a sufferer or two?

Im all for freedom (especially freedom of expression which is definitely being encroached upon these days) but the people protesting about masks are rebels without a cause. They desperately want to be seen as ‘freedom fighters’ but they are just pointless. There are plenty of serious issues in the world that they could demonstrate against but that would require a bit of thought and commitment. Heroically protesting about masks is about as valid as Antony Joshua boasting that he can beat his mom at arm wrestling.

how are you you doing? any side effects from the second shot? i got mild flu symptoms from my first, but i heard the second is actually worse for some people.

also, stupid question here: do you still have to wear a mask after youve been fully vaccinated and if so why?
im not trying to be a smart ass, i honestly dont know.
(full disclosure..imho masks and getting vax is a no brainer).

My understanding is that yes, one still wears a mask because one can still get the virus, but being vaccinated means your body should fight it off without you getting ill, but you could still transmit it. Masks are to help prevent the transmission, so even though you are at a much reduced risk of getting ill, vacination doesn't put a magic shield around the body, it just helps the body fight it off if you become infected. Being infected runs the risk of transmission.

At least, that's what it looks like to me.

                    Hi Abby,

Yeah, at my work we certainly saw a few people taking a day or two to work from home after the second jag.

No such thing happened after the first.

A doc pal of mine had warned me that this seems to be how things are playing out.

Nobody was seriously ill, and the symptoms all subsided after around 48 hours though.

I was one of the lucky ones, and suffered no ill effects after either injection.

It's just the luck of the draw!

We are still having to wear masks after being fully inoculated, not so much to protect ourselves, but more to avoid spread to other people.

My understanding of it is that there is some tentative evidence that the jag reduces the likelihood of transmission, but nobody really knows for sure yet.

The last figure I read was that it's looking like transmission is reduced by around 33.3% (so it's significant but not huge).

As someone who is now fully vaccinated, I am unlikely to catch Covid (or if I do, my symptoms should be much less severe), but I could still carry it and pass it on to others who are not yet vaccinated.

                    I THINK that's correct!!!

                      Hello Abby,

I only had a sore arm after the first shot but the second really did me in. Fever, chills, body ache, headache, fatigue, couldn't sleep. 24 hours later doing better and no fever and seem to be slowly returning to normal.

My understanding is that you have to continue to wear a mask since the vaccine is not 100% effective and we still have not achieved herd immunity. Hopefully it won't be long before we can take the damn things off.

                      c.d.

It seemed to vary from person to person depending on which vaccine you got. .My brother got the Pfizer, reported very little side-effects beyond a sore arm. My colleague got the Moderna and said she had bad enough side effects to take off the next day from work.

I had a very sore arm from the first Moderna jab and a few more symptoms like tiredness and a very mild temp from the second, but no chills or anything more serious.

In our state, they are saying it's okay to go maskless outside but masks are still needed inside. Everyone 16 and older is allowed to get the vaccine nowhere. The college is trying to aim for returning to face to face classes for Fall semester(starting in August) but who really knows...?
