Here are two wonderful songs from Joan Baez. Joan has one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard.

A love affair?
Hi Julia
Now you're talking...possibly the greatest ever female voice in American folk music (ok I know that's going to raise controversy, but it's my honest view)...it's the perfectly modulated and somehow sweet tone, which you just know is backed by that gravel hardness which just occasionally surfaces...
But this link, to me at least, is the pure spirit of Joan...

You may not agree, but to me, somehow it represents everything I ever wanted from the 60s/70s yet never got...don't know quite why...but there it is...
All the best

Hi Dave,
I love that song! I was about 12/13, a group of us girls at school were 'into' singing, unaccompanied, in any quiet corner we could find. We sang that song! It must have been about 1970/71. We also sang 'leaving on a jet plane' and other folky stuff like 'five hundred miles'. They are ideal songs for young voices.

The greatest living folk singer (depending on how you lie your folk) and perhaps one of the greatest living humanists:

Hi Julie
Well if it's Jake then I think you'd need to go a long way to beat this one, (though so much of his stuff was so funny):-

PS It was my mother-in-law's favourite and when she died a few years back, among other things we inherited from her...yes you've guessed it!
