I don't think I've heard of one of those in the UK before. What are you guys doing with all that time off?

It's the Queen's Jubilee - 60 years.
We normally have a bank holiday at the end of May but that has been moved to this weekend and they've thrown in an extra day.
Thousands of street parties going on.
Tomorrow there is a pageant going down the Thames. Hundreds of boats involved.
The country seems to have become obsessed with it.
I'm doing the gardening and then off to the allotment to pick our first strawberries of the year!

Sounds kind of fun. It's good to unite.

I watched the Thames Pageant and it was quite interesting to begin with. However, after about an hour it became very boring and I almost fell asleep. I never thought I'd say this but when you've seen one boat you've seen 'em all.
The Queen will probably be glad when the whole shebang is over and done with.
Typical British weather though - it was pi$$ing with rain throughout.
A four day holiday is all very nice and that's fine for those who work in the public sector. It's not so good for those employers who are forced to give their employees an extra day off without pay.This is simply my opinion

Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee's
celebrated on the Thames with glee;
the rain may be tippling down
yet no one wears a frown;
time for all of us to cheer for Queen E!

Lot of people watching the Diamond Jubilee here. 60 year rule. Even Augustus only had 45. Did she beat Elizabeth I?
Jeffrey Archer, who has a flat overlooking the river apparently displayed a large banner which read
"60 years... congratulations ma'am but the record is 63 years 7 months"
The latter being a reference to Queen Victoria

Yes. George III was 59 years & 9 months. He's at No.3 in the charts!
Surprisingly only the top three have made it to their 78th birthday.

Longevity
If the present queen lives as long as her mother, though, she'll overtake Louis XIV as well as VR
Wish I could be there for that. Beatlemania is still alive in MY heart
