I won't always agree but I'll try not to be disagreeable.
If you're going north to Scotland, you've got Lindisfarne (Holy Island) off the Northumberland coast. I'm not sure how commercialised it is nowadays as it's a long time since I've been up there.
Visitor information provided by the islanders web site on our unique island heritage, accommodation, community and their produce.
I believe it was Lindisfarne that was sacked by the Vikings prompting someone to say, "God save us from the fury of the Northmen" or something to that effect. It was...791? 871? Can't remember, but it sounds like a good idea to go there.
