Right again Tom. Senator McCain, Oral Roberts, and Dick Cheney are all turning their kids gay with their right wing, religious homophobic propaganda. I mean really if religious right wingers can't raise their kids up straight, what hope do the rest of us have.

I presume if you believe sexuality is a choice, then it's because you are choosing to date girls despite your overwhelming desire to go down on a guy?
Alexander the great was teased because he was not "Gay" enough. he only had one male lover. and at least 2 wives.

Whats your response to that smart ass?

Very few things fall into the solely nature or solely nurture column. However, the three most significant influences on our sexuality come from modeling, exposure, and biology. If modeling alone was responsible for sexuality, there would be no homosexuals, and two men can't make a baby, thus cannot model homosexuality for very young children (and this is essentially locked by the time you start school). Exposure (meaning what we know about sex and when) influences our attitudes on sex, but not our sexuality. Then of course there is biology. Specifically, the interpretation of pheromones. That is hard wired. It's why a vast majority of us are not sexually attracted to our siblings. It cannot be interpreted in any other way, and it can't be reprogrammed. If a man derives sexual attraction from male pheromones, that's it. game over. It isn't a "birth defect". It isn't a defect at all. Any more than left handedness is a defect. My uncle certainly suffered for his left handedness growing up in Catholic schools, but in the end, it's not a maladaptive trait.

And Newt Gingrich is for child labor. We're about to re-experience the Victorian era in our time, lol.

    Hi Robert,

A birth defect? That's never been proven, because it ain't so. I'm actually kind of surprised you still buy in to that. Although certain people may be more prone to homosexuality, pedophilia, beastiality, lust murderer, etc., it must certainly be a matter of nurture.

    Hi Tom

I didn't call it a defect, and it certainly doesn't belong with the other things you listed, which are perversions. I just think that gayness is wired in for certain people. That's what gays say, anyway, and why should they lie? Also, you can often (but not always) tell if someone is gay, from mere appearance (I'm not talking about frilly shirts and suchlike, rather facial expressions and general mannerisms). Just as you can often tell if someone is, say, Irish.

There's nothing to get Tom. You're the one who's confused here. According to your expectations you should have grown up "effeminate" yourself. But you didn't. Just very, very whiney.

Homosexuality and pedophilia are born-with features. Though let's not mention them in the same breath please. Bestiality probably occurs through circumstances (when in need). Necrophilia, sociopathy, lust murderer through a combination of hereditary mental makeup and well-researched and well-known circumstances (severely abusive upbringing, head trauma, fetal alcohol syndrome, etc.).

Imagine if they were raised by Barbra Streisand! They'd have to become Jewish gay.
    :-p

Well I thought that gays were born, not made. Prolonged exposure to Barbara Streisand's singing might put a chap off women, but apart from that I don't see the point in telling people not to be gay.

Both. Most pastors and minister here are officially ordained by the branch they belong to, and most have at least a bachelors in divinity (or some related major). Most have also attended a seminary of some sort.

But some guys just claim that the spirit of god moves them and they open their own church. For example, "the Church of the Bloody Nail" (true story) is operated by a guy who started preaching as a 13 year old. so...

I guess it just depends on what kind of quality control a congregation is going to insist on.

Noone would dare punch a girl going through a tom boy stage. However, maybe someone ought to punch a girl going through a Tom Wescott stage. Or not?

No clue, but there's one less of them running around. An ex Ripperologist, real good too, specialized in Druitt.

I still don't understand why "effeminate" boys have to be "fixed". What is the inherent problem?
I absolutely agree, Errata. The pastor in question is a hateful, sexist bigot. I try to be tolerant, but I can't tolerate hate or cruelty to children who are just "different."

And as for "the much needed male influence", can this thing be really defined?
I'm struggling to define it, too. I don't want to bore you with too much gender discussion but I do know that children often interact differently with adults according to both the gender of the child and the gender of the adult and there is a biological basis to it.

My own father is a nerdy university science professor type who shuns sports but he is definitely more "masculine" in his outlook than my nurturing, tries-to-see-the-good-in-everyone mother. Male and female brains function differently on a number of levels, and this affects not just behavior but worldview/politics. I think children need a lot of early and continuous exposure to both genders (and gender differences) to better prepare them for an ideologically complex world that is roughly 50% male and 50% female.

Care for personal appearance? Dislike of sports? What is effeminate? And what is so wrong with it that we are blaming parents and the school system for creating it, or nurturing it, or simply failing to quash it?
I absolutely agree, Errata. Gender behaviour is a social construct. God never, ever said that females should wear dresses and males should wear trousers. Would this paster tell parents to punch girls who go through a tom boy stage? Would he punch girls who wear jeans? I'd like to take a punch at him! Moron!
