  • A public apology to Lynn Cates

I want to openly apologize to Lynn Cates for the personal attacks I have made directly to him in several posts in the past. I have perused some of my responses to him and have to agree that is exactly what they were.

When I joined these boards, I made a promise to myself not to indulge in political discussions or to make personal accusations against any member, but to remain professional and try to contribute some historical context to what is usually regarded as a murder mystery instead of a historical event. I broke both of those promises.

For many years I portrayed individuals from the past as a 'living historian' at reenactments, cemetery walks, school presentations and historical events designed to save some of our landmarks. I developed a passion for an accurate representation of people who were no longer here to speak for themselves. That passion has carried over into my interest in the people involved in this saga and, on occasion, I have lashed out at certain posters who I thought were making unfair assumptions about the people who lived through this time and -especially- those who were the victims.

I did this specifically with Lynn; questioning his motive and humanity toward the victims without really knowing either. One can not know these things in the sparse context of a one dimensional discussion board.

I have had one simple goal in life... and that is to have six 'real' friends carry me to my final resting place. Seems like I've got a little more work to do if I want to achieve that goal. As a passionate believer in portraying people correctly I should have understood that my treatment of Lynn was hypocritical. Life is short enough as it is... and we may not always have as much time to live it as we think.

Excellent, Hunter. But how can Lynn read this, if you're still on his ignore list ?

Glad to see you guys have patched things up, and “back to work“ is a good motto.

Ain't that the truth, plus it often interferes with the motto above (“back to work“). ;-)
          Best regards,

Hello Heinrich. Thanks. Perhaps I am a bit hard boiled? (heh-heh)

Hello Caroline. Of course. That's the ONLY direction available.

Sorry it's so late but I only just came across this thread - "Onwards and Upwards" Caz? I don't recall you from my Varndean days!

                        All the best
