  • London Job 2012

    Saturday 31st March 2012

Meet at Aldgate Tube Station, 12.30pm

    Ladies & Gentlemen

Messers Clack and Bell cordially invite you to this years London Job.

Double event this time. No1 squealed a bit.

Its the City. A preambulation which will take on a few sites connected to those 'orrible murders of 1888 which, for now, shall be kept as a surprise. It will be a shorter jaunt than previous years.

No2 is a night job. Where? nobody knows. We shall wander the darkened streets like modern day Lusks and a'lookin in the shadows for the villainous Whitechapel terror.

As ever please be prepared for a long(ish) walk and weather. Also as ever please feel free to dip in and out as and when you wish.

The evening saunt shall be decided by the masses on the day.

If you require my mobile number please message me.

    Cheers
    Neil

PS Please note the meeting point is Aldgate Tube station and NOT Aldgate east. If you need confirmation just ask.

Is there going to be a London job in May perhaps?

(On March 31 I'm presenting a paper at a conf in Paris.)
          Best regards,
          Maria

            Hi all,

Just a couple of requests for attendees.

            1) Rob and I are too old to chase around after wanderers. Please do not wander too far ahead of Rob as he states he 'aint chasing after those who have wandered off.

            2) Please try to keep together. If you wish to stop off at a shop just shout up and we will wait.

            3) Please be aware of others taking photographs of buildings. Difficult I know but do try to keep out of building lines if you can.

We do operate a laid back atmosphere and any infrigement of the above will be greeted with humour, banter and ridicule. However, we just ask you please be aware of the above.

            Many thanks

              Hi Neil and Rob

I can't come on the walk as my old legs aren't what they used to be but if either of you could PM me with the intended itinery I may be able to suggest a couple of minor detours which might prove interesting.

Its a shame you cannot make it Stephen.

Feel free to mail us your suggestions and we will see if we can slot them in.

                    Thanks, Neil

I'm sure you and Rob will have this thing pretty much covered and my input may well be irrelevent but I'd go....

                    The Monument and Billingsgate

Cloak Lane with Major Henry's sleeping quarters

Bell Lane (Hogarth's Beer Street), the loveliest London lane

On to Cheapside (watch out for unmuzzled dogs)

To Saint Pauls and Temple Bar, which I went to see a few years ago when it was in the grounds of a golf club in Hertfordshire and looked magnificent.

Unfortunately the bricks are now covered in matt vinyl magnolia paint. Nice one, guys.

And don't forget to check out Carter Lane just across the road where the person who said Kosminski ate out of the gutter lived, and where Aaron's relations had business premises.

                      Hi Stephen,

Unfortunately my coyness prevents me from confirming your suggestions, however they all have been considered with some extras to boot.

We do try to keep an element of mystery to our walks, all will be out in due course.

And Stephen, should you wish to join us, even for a short while, please feel free. Just let me know and I'm sure I could arrange something.

Thanks Stephen, most of those are on the planned route, the ones around St Pauls are a bit tricky but practically everything you have mentioned is on the route.

                        All the best

All change at its all been very nice but I want to go home now for the Northern Line.
