TRIVIA QUESTION- Many superheroes have sacrificed their lives in order to save others, but only one (to my knowledge) has ever just flat-out committed suicide. Can anyone name him?

oh Wait.. didn't Adrian Chase, The Vigilante kill himself as well....not sure if he is a superhero or not......wow..why do I know this stuff, sad thing is I don't even read comic books.... some Graphic Novels, and I did read Silver Surfer a bit when I was a kid...but a good friend of mine owns a comic book store.. so I always here about stuff..... fun little thread...as far as my favorite superhero, I would have to say Arm Fall Off Boy (come one folks... that was just a weird character eh?)

DING DING! Correct Steadmund, I was going for Adrian Chase, in "Vigilante" #50, 1987. Realizing he was going crazy from having killed so many people and having become the very thing he first set out to fight against, he calmly stood before a bathroom mirror, put a .44 magnum under his chin and blew his brains out. Comic book death is rarely permanent, but his was.
I'm currently catching up on a lot of the Green Lantern stuff- will have to see if I run across a non-selfless suicide there.

Actually this thread did get me to go digging thru my storage and pull out all my old Silver Surfer comics....and well I must admit, it's been fun reading them again."The truth is what is, and what should be is a fantasy. The Vigilante shot himself in a bathroom because of his own personal pain like any normal suicidal person (if there is such a thing).Best regards,

New question- With all the superhero movies bombarding theaters lately, what are everyones' favorite portrayals? I think Christopher Reeve's Superman, Christian Bale's Batman, Toby McGuire's Spiderman, and Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man are all first class in that department. I would also give special mention to Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, and Chloe Moretz's Hit Girl would have to be my favorite guilty pleasure. A lot of others have done very satisfactory jobs, but those are the ones that stand out for me.
Afterthought- Though not really a traditional superhero, Brandon Lee in "The Crow" will absolutely haunt you, especially when you know that he lost his life making it. Plus, the parallels between that role and Heath Ledger's Oscar-winning Joker in "The Dark Knight" are downright creepy.
Mistakes- Though the acting was fine, Michael Keaton did not have the right look or the right build to play Batman, Val Kilmer's turn in the role was kind of phoned in, and the one with George Clooney was just plain awful. Then there was Ben Affleck as Daredevil. No. No no no no. Just no.

How about the women that have played Catwoman/Selina Kyle?
Three played her opposite Adam West. Lee Meriwether- passable. Julie Newmar- the very best, the gold standard. And Ertha Kitt- she definitely had the purring voice down, but not the look, and I don't think it's right to change a character's race.
Michelle Pheiffer, opposite Michael Keaton- Loved it. The blonde Catwoman was wonderfully neurotic and her shrill scream whenever she lost her cool was worth the ticket price all by itself.
Halle Berry- She was a completely different Catwoman, not Selina Kyle, so she doesn't count. "Nuff said.
Next up- Ann Hathaway opposite Christian Bale in next year's "The Dark Knight Rises." Early looks at the costume show it to be very traditional, rather Julie Newmar-like. We shall see how she does.

Did Jean Grey commit suicide as Dark Phoenix? Thought I heard something along those lines after I stopped collecting. My favorite was Thunderbird until he had a suicide like action of jumping on that plane. I had 5 Giant size X-Men number ones because he was just a tough dude with attitude. I suppose Marvel figured that they had the quota of attitude with Wolverine, and minorities with Storm, so Thunderbird had to go. I suppose Wendigo was favorite baddie, going toe to toe with Hulk was a awesome battle.I confess that altruistic and cynically selfish talk seem to me about equally unreal. With all humility, I think 'whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might,' infinitely more important than the vain attempt to love one's neighbour as one's self. If you want to hit a bird on the wing you must have all your will in focus, you must not be thinking about yourself, and equally, you must not be thinking about your neighbour; you must be living with your eye on that bird. Every achievement is a bird on the wing.

Here's some favorite superhero love interests:
Spiderman/Mary Jane Watson- "Go get 'em, Tiger."
Superman/Lois Lane- The ultimate comic book couple.
The two greatest loves of Batman's life- Silver St. Cloud who he proposed to, and of course Selina Kyle/Catwoman, who he always comes back to.
Green Lantern/Carol Ferris- He went through WAY too much dark stuff for them to work out in the end, but they stayed friends.
Superhero couples-
Hawkman and Hawkgirl.
Green Arrow and Black Canary.
Dr. Manhattan and Silk Specter, then Nightowl and Silk Specter (in "Watchmen.")
Anyone else have any favorites?
