Have been reading a lot of graphic novels lately catching up on the history of Green Arrow and Green Lantern. I highly reccomend them for all you sci-fi fans out there because for heroes based on Earth they are best friends who become involved in some incredibly complex cosmic situations that are anything but kid stuff. They're quite dark, in fact. Green Arrow relies purely on finely honed human skill, while Green Lantern is in touch with forces that can crack planets in half, yet they share adventures on equal ground and both have been dead for long periods and come back to life, bringing in incredible spiritual and supernatural elements to their story as well. (Comic book death is rarely permanent, actually, but still- check these out!)

The Avengers don't appeal to me so much. The chick is kinda lame. I hear Joss Whedon's doing an Avengers show though, and I might be interested in checking it out.

I had NO idea Superman was the very first superhero ever. Is that a fact? What I like about Superman is his undilluted innocence, plus I adore Chris Reeve, both as an actor and as a person. Such a shame he died. (Plus I've always wondered if something like that might not happen to me too, as my speciality in freestyle snowboarding is big air, crushing from 5-7m/15-20 ft high. :-))
Superman is not all powerful, he's got the cryptonite problem. What makes him dull is that he's all good all the time vs. showing some edge. That's why I enjoyed the movie Superman III as a kid, where he briefly became bad (though that sequel was pretty shitty otherwise).
What I also find very lame is Lois Lane – her failing to recognize him without his glasses, her always ending up needing to be rescued...yawn.
      Best regards,
      Maria

        Mariab,

Superman is oftentimes known by the nickname "The big boy scout." I also love Christopher Reeves' portrayal of him- it went down in cinematic history. Such a tragedy how he died. Brandon Routh played the character a few years ago in "Superman Returns"- not a bad movie, but it didn't leave a memorable impression. A new version is now in the works, with Brit Henry Cavill playing Superman in "The Man of Steel" due out some time in 2012.

And by the way- if you were to delve into comics of the past few years you will see that Lois Lane is no longer in the dark as to Superman's identity and that she is now married to Clarck Kent with full knowledge of who and what he is.

Hold on! Jon Jonzz (I think) the Martian Manhunter. He didn;t have his own book, but he was equal to Superman and had no weakness really and he was green, so maybe one of the first minority characters. I really liked him and the Silver Surfer... but Doc Strange is still the best because of the monsters he fought.

Plankton-Spongebob's arch nemesis who is always trying to steal the secret formula of the crabby patty, the signature burger at Spongebob's place of employment, The Krusty Krab.

Darkman-odd littleknown superhero? with many gray areas.

Giraffeman-His only power is having a long neck, to see over things
              and his sidekick:
Manboy-his superpower is an overwhelming force of immaturity.

Then of course, there is Dudeman, whos superpower is to annoy to death anyone with his constant habit of starting every sentence with the word "dude".

but a dream within a dream?"

quite tallies with the descriptions I got of him."

The gods all predate Superman. It's just that their books aren't so well illustrated.

This new development had so far escaped my attention. ;-)

Someone I know is NUTS about the Silver Surfer. He's only given me one story to read so far, and I liked it.

J'onn J'onzz was vulnerable to fire, and was killed by it in the maxi-series "Final Crisis" a few years ago.

The Discworld's Death - he is a kind of superhero or supervillain - hard to decide, but something with 'super' anyway!

Normally I'm rather into ani-heroes. Loners, loosers, cripples ...
I got interested in Jack the Ripper after hearing Mei Trow say, "We have to get away from that image of a gentleman with black cape and doctor's bag, who comes out of the fog."
I got even more interested when I read the FBI profile. Now, THAT sounded like a fascinating guy!
                            (Really!)
