  • Ever dreamt of the Ripper?

Hmm ... Let's do some dreamwork.

Were you killer, cop, or victim?

  • #2
    A few times.
In the first dream I was chasing the Ripper (after he had just killed someone) through meander-like Victorian yards, but eventually I lost him, and I was thinking to myself “I should have studied Rob (Clack)'s pics and maps better“.
In the second dream there was an assassin killing the Fenians among Ripperologists (go figure, it was a dream), and I was running around trying to warn some people until I somehow got knifed in the heart, was dying, and regretting it. :-)
I've also had a dream about a Ripper conference where Don Rumbelow was showing us a wall in London which contained graffitis of occult drawings allegedly engraved on MJK's bed.
Plus I once dreamed I was a spy instrumentalized by Lynn Cates to steal Okhrana records from the KGB in Russia and I was penetrating a building as a fake researcher, speaking fluent Russian.
The rest of the dreams are of a more private nature and unmentionable.
    Best regards,
    Maria

I was a witness and dreamed that I saw JtR walking out of a building. He was about a 15-year-old kid.
This my opinion and to the best of my knowledge, that is, if I'm not joking.

No, but I have dreamed about the Titanic Disaster several times.

On one or two occasions I have dreamed of looking at a book where the infamous Kelly photograph pops up. I always manage to avoid looking at it in my dreams.

I once dreamt that I was Jack the Ripper, who was lying in bed asleep and dreaming of Horatio Nelson, who in turn was dreaming about Julius Caesar...

It took me bloody ages to extricate myself.

No, but I had recurrent nightmares from age 10 (or so) to 19/20.

There was a second show cinema in my home town that used to change programmes mid week. First half of week and evenings were horror, second part of week matinees was Tarzan, Roman epics etc etc. I used to love going on a Saturday afternoon.

On one occasion they showed the trailer for a film "Jack the Ripper" (which I now know to be the 1959 b&w film). The scenes of a top-hatted, caped, anaonymous figure with a Gladstone bag, walking on wet cobbles really scared me.

My unease increased when my parents (who knew little about the case) said he was never caught. In 1965 it was JUST possible that had Jack been young in 1888 he might still be alive - though very old!! That was enough. He became a bogeyman for me.

(I think I conflated the images from the film, the caped Spaniard that was the symbol of Sandiman's port, and the song about the "Sandman" who came to put children to sleep. (My nightmare was that Jack came to kill children as they slept.)

I only rid myself of the nightmare when I was attending the University College of wales at Aberystwyth around 1972, when I used the resources of the National Library of Wales to read all I could on Jack - Matters, Odell, Stewart, McCormick - and laid the ghost.

Ironically, my seat was right under the statue of the man who is now known as "Uncle jack"!!!

But I replaced the nightmare with a life-long fascination with the question, "Who might Jack have been?"

There's not much to tell yet. I dreamt of Hanbury Street lately - only the place, not the crime. That's all so far.

I once saw Mary Kelly in a dream, or, i had a vaque intuition that it was her.
Mary was standing outside of her room chatting with various souls wandering about. I was inside of Millers Court briefly at one point; it was tidier and homelier than you might imagine, with a dark green glazed brick fireplace i remember.

You never know to whom you are talking on the Internet, mariab, and they very one you trust has turned on you. (Am I right?)

Do you want to tell us what you did when you were 15, sdreid?

A recurring dream suggests some anxiety, Jeff. At the time you had these dreams, you must have felt swamped. (Am I right?)

You saw a sticky end coming, Robert.

Pretend you are Hanbury Street, K-453, and tell us what it is like being the street. What is your story?

You have a soft spot for Mary Kelly, Scorpio. You think she has been reduced to a victim but you know she was a real person, warm and kind. (Am I right?)

OK, alright. Yes, when I was a boy of about 8 I did dream I was Jack the Ripper. It must have been because of some movie or trailer that I saw at the cinema. I was lying in wait on straw under a boardwalk with a big knife in my hand when someone passed by. I went to lunge at my victim only to wake-up in bed, sitting, with my arm raised ready to strike. That was the one and only time I dreamed of Jack.

                        Hi.
I would swear that this was not a dream.
Around 1975-76 ,I awoke to use the loo, and returned to bed, looking at the table clock as one does, it was approx 4am.
I settled back down again laying to my left , when I felt something running over my neck... my instant reaction was to call out to my wife stating [ for some reason] there's a rat in the room, but soon realized it was likely to have been our cat Teddy, and dosed off.
In the morning I repeated the experience again to my wife, and as she went to make some tea, checked on the whereabouts of our cat, the door being locked and she being stretched out on the carpet, where she was, when we retired to bed the previous evening.
I put it down as ''how strange'', but approx a year later I read ''for the first time'' the full account Of Mrs Praters experience with 'Diddles', and the hairs on my neck really stood up, my wife was spooked as well.
The time and the event would have been so similar to when it is possible that Kelly was being killed..
Could that have been a dream..I would say very unlikely, I had just returned from the loo, which wzs no dream...
                        Regards Richard.

Bunny, oh my God am I here all alone?

Richard, did you not dream, about 4 years ago, that you heard Mary Kelly's voice coming out of your computer speakers? I'm sure you told us about it.

I don't know now whether it was a 'real' nightmare, or a some imaginitive thing when I was hovering between sleep and conciousness..but I did have one horrible flip when I imagined that I was Mary Kelly, alone on that bed in
her room...(I think that my Husband was away at the time).

It was a completely desperate, vulnerable, and anguished feeling to lie there in the dark, listening to sounds from the window, and realising that someone was going to kill me and, although there were lots of sounds from people nearby, none of those people would come to help nor see my killer and bring him to justice (although he was someone they knew)...

Worse (because I was of course 'Me' and not really Mary kelly), was not to take the position of Mary Kelly's body -with the head turned towards the window- and become a terrifying image that no one normal would ever wish to look upon again, with my very identity erased forever...

Tonight I had a real weird dream about Jack the Ripper.
I was guest at a big wedding. There was an exhibition with books on the topics in which the different guests are interested.
Of course there was at least one book on Jack the Ripper. In this book I found a document, which another interested guest certified to be original. I cannot the remember the Englisch text, but at the end there were some lines in Yiddish scribbled with a pencil and a signature which one could only read when the light came in under a certain angle. This signature contained - in a green writing - the name Kosminski.
As it was a real big wedding, we found an old man who translated the Yiddish part to us. It first complained about this information been given to the Russian secret service, and was then afraid of a blackmailing.
The translated signature read "The lawyer of Kosminski".
                              Then I woke up.
