  • Memorable moments that make you smile

    Hello all,

I thought I'd start a thread that perhaps people have the chance to share a few light-hearted moments from their lives, watching film or television.

I'll start off with the following :-)

    Enjoy

James Cordon's Smithy stumbles into the England Football meeting, and lets rip. Featuring David Beckham, John Terry, Rio Ferdinand, David James, Peter Crouch...

The one thing off the top of my head which instantly makes me smile ecstatically is a line of (at least five) kickers (=jumps) in a snowpark, unridden. Yummm...
Or a body of water, be it the ocean, a lake, a river, or an empty swimming pool. Pure bliss...
Or (of lately) a HUGE Hotel bed (pref. unpaid for), all for me, waiting for me at the end of the day.
    Best regards,
    Maria

It makes me smile to see that that was post 1,805 for Phil, followed by post 1,806 for Maria.

Hey, I actually noticed that myself earlier today! It made me go “I just beat Phil by 1 point“...
        Best regards,

Which goes to prove that Phil and Maria are one and the same person. Incredible, no?

Given the issue over identities of people behind screen names it was naughty to imply that Phil and Maria might be the same person. I apologize.

It is quite amazing how numbers can coincide.

When I am not involved in Ripperology, my full-time job is as a medical editor, and I put together an annual book of questions in continuing medical education for doctors, with the questions and answers being devised by a team of specialists in the subject area. Every years, the organization publishes a book containing some 160 questions in a 200-page book. This year, I realised that I would need to republish a table that appeared several years ago in an earlier unit in a related but separate area of the field. And although I arbitrarily put together the order of the questions in the book each time, it turns out incredibly that in this year's book as in that prior volume, the same table turns out to be numbered Table 115-1 both times. Hmmmmm.

I swim three times a week for exercise at a hotel pool near where I live. I try to get the place to myself, but sometimes other people come in and I have to share. When people bring their little kids in and the kids are hellions who just splash around screaming and making animal noises, I cringe and then I leave. Bad parenting making bad kids. But just occasionally, someone will come in with an adoreable little child who is quiet and well behaved and just being cute and they will bob about in the pool sharing some true parent-child bonding. And that makes me smile.

Or maybe Tom is mathematically inclined and has a fetish with numbers.
By the by, I hope that with “big girls“ he means curvy, not that he has a fetish with big feet or Janet Reno.

We've been seen together in the same room in London (during the Septemeber 2010 conference), so we're good.

Yes, but do your socks match? I betcha they don't. They even sound like different coloured!

An empty swimming pool in perfect blue tones is complete BLISS. Never have I been able to resist not jumping in. My worst experience at a pool was last fall at a Hotel in Greece, where this anal-retentive lifeguard kept insisting to put a plastic cap over my hair, which naturally didn't stay on a minute, and then he kept forbidding me not only to jump in, but even to go underwater. He kept screaming “Miss! Miss!“ every time I went submarine, and I finally lost patience and flipped him (not directly to his face, but he sure as hell saw it). My mom totally freaked out and kept saying I totally embarrassed her. But the Hotel director, an old gentleman, was super cool. He said “You really like to swim, eh?“ and was laughing...
With apologies for the moronic anecdote.
                        Best regards,
                        Maria

Wow! Nice how I spelled “September“ in my post #12. (I had just woke up when I posted that, as excuses go.)
