  • Hotel Recommendation

I am planning my first trip to London. I'd like to stay in Whitechapel primarily because I plan on doing the Jack the Ripper tour. Of course there are online reviews for many of the hotels but I was wondering if any Ripper enthusiasts had a favorite hotel that was most convenient to the JTR landmarks.

    Hello Barnaby

During the 2009 Ripper convention, a number of us stayed at the Ibis Hotel on Commercial Street. Clean but basic. The 2011 Whitechapel Society convention coming up October 1-2 will be held at the City Hotel on Osborn Street, also in the relevant area of the East End. It also seems to be reasonable in rates. Good luck!

Thanks, I was actually looking at both of these hotels. Good to know I was on the right track. Now, if only I could find a cheap flight...

Oh you will so love your trip to London.. I know I did (have been trying to find a way to move there ever since my last trip) as far as hotels go.. you can honestly stay anywhere as the tube in London is so amazing, you can get anywhere on it, quick... my last trip I stayed right near Hyde park and made my way to the east end several times with no trouble at all..

        Again... enjoy your trip!!

Off topic Mr Brand, but I know a girl who has lived in London all of her life and has spent the last 2 years in New York. According to her, New York is infinitely more attractive as a place to live. Funny what a change of scenery can do to the mind!

Ah this may be true... of New York City... but I live on the other side of the state... Buffalo NY, which I do love, beautiful place, right near Niagara Falls and only 15 minutes from Canada...but.. I can't explain it.. I never felt at "home" more in my life than I did in London......gee, I hope it's not some "past life regression" hahaha

I'd enjoy it more if plane tickets weren't $1100 apiece. Unfortunately, the only time I can go is in the summer and that's when tickets are most expensive.

At least the restaurants in the area don't appear to be particularly expensive. There is a Bangladesh/Indian place that used to be the Frying Pan that I definitely want to visit.
