Well, we’ve already lost Borough Market and all the Grade II listed buildings around it to modern development and now it looks as if Greenwich Market will suffer the same fate.
The go ahead for the redevelopment has finally been given the go-ahead, despite the fact that A). The public detested the modern make-over, B). The local council rejected the application on the grounds that it was totally out of keeping with the history and architecture of Greenwich town centre and because it simply was not of a sufficiently high standard for a World Heritage Site. The planning inspectorate then overturned the decision after an appeal.
