  • Interesting Facts

I thought I would start a new thread dedicated to interesing facts. Take them from anywhere and post them if you think it is interesting. Any subject. It doesn't matter. Maybe we can all learn something.

All right -- In the classic movie "Casablanca", because Ingrid Bergman was a few inches taller than Bogart, director Michel Curtiz had Bogart stand on boxes in several scenes so that he would appear to be taller than her.

    good idea

Hello CD. You have a very good idea here. Well done!

But, since you thought of it and I didn't, "You despise me--don't you?"

    Cheers.

Margaret Mitchell, the author of "Gone With the Wind" stated that she based the character of Melanie Wilkes (Ashley's wife played by Olivia DeHaviland) on Doc Holliday's first cousin. The two were rumored to have had a romantic relationship. She became a nun and it was at this time that Doc gave up a promising dental practice and moved out West to become a gambler. He became a legend of the old west and was involved in the gun fight at the OK corral.

Actually, I like you, Lynn. But reading some of your posts, I feel like I graduated from grade school only with the help of political influence.

          wrong answer

Hello CD. Buzzzz. That's the wrong answer. You were supposed to say, "Well, I probably would if I ever thought about you." Are you SURE you're a "Casablanca" fan?

          Cheers.

"Kicking the Gong Around" is an expression that appeared in America in the late 1920s. It is a slang term for smoking opium.

Yep, you got me on that one. You lobbed it right down the middle and I failed to hit it out.

Lynn, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

In 1961, as baseball player Roger Maris attempted to break Babe Ruth's home run record, the stress caused his hair to fall out in clumps.

Boris Karloff attended the Merchant Taylor school. The same school Dr Frederick Gordon Brown attended.

Karloffs sister, Anna, was a Nanny in Siam and became this inspiration for Anna in the King & I.
