  • Census returns 1901

    Guys,

I think I know the answer to this but really need confirmation.

On the 1901 census returns there is a column which states 'Employer, Worker, Own accord'.

Now it seems straightforward to me but I assume Employer employs the worker, am I correct?

Basically the worker works on those premises.

    Thanks in advance

Yes - I think "Employer" means you employ someone else, "Worker" means you are employed by someone else, and "Own account" means you work for yourself (and don't employ anyone else). Then there is another column that indicates whether you work at home.
