  • oh beautiful history

A buddy of mine at uni just emailed me some diary entries from a 1840's trading post in western Missouri. In July his entries are about the limitless market to sell natives guns and whiskey, record profits, and how he cannot keep stocked. In November the entries center on the large amount of drunken and armed natives in the area and how he fears for his safety. Ironically said trader was shot to death by a slave stater some 10 years later. I am giggling uncontrollably as I type this. Dave

    movie

Hello Dave. If you like that kind of irony, you might wish to check out the old Sir Sean movie, "Cuba." Denholm Elliott plays the role of a British adventurer who sells arms to the Fidelistas whilst running a legitimate business. His venture backfires.

    Cheers.

Thanks Lynn I will put that on my list. It is funny because both liquor and firearms
were contraband trade products for anglos to trade to native Americans. So we have Joe jack ass breaking the law, boasting about the profits, then one day realizing that everyone around him had a gun and whiskey. Dave

I know Ruby, it is delicious. My buddy studies frontier trade but I would love to know if that guy has living descendants. I can here the stories now," so there was grandad surrounded by drunken armed Indians!" with no mention of granpa being king dumbass. Dave
