I watched the new Last House on the Left this week. It's not for everyone but I thought it was passable. I have never seen the original so my view was not colored either way by that.

I've been on the night shift again, which means movies, movies, movies

This month I mostly rewatched old favourites. Particularly The Great Train Robbery and Plunkett and Maclean., both of which are a riot!

I also re-watched Hoodwinked--I'd forgotten just how clever it was. I'm looking forward to the upcoming sequel.

I picked up a double feature the other day--Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz in one package--looking forward to seeing what the special features are.

Does anyone know anything about the new red barron movie, as I am a big fan of the dogfight era?

Quite right. My wife and I saw it the other evening. Great performances by all concerned. Although, I thought it was just a little too long, and that some of the "Julie" sequences were repetitive. Some judicious editing would have made this a great film.

Went round to my mates last night and we all sat and watched Night of the Creeps, a really bad 80's horror directed by Fred Dekker. It had some many moments that made us laugh, and very little horror!

I also tried watching the new Friday the 13th but just got angry at what they had done to the franchise.

I saw The Spirit and The Watchmen as a double feature last week.

The Spirit was good, but some of the acting was terrible--too much emphasis on the style, not enough on the performance.

The Watchmen was awesome. Looked great and the acting was pretty solid.

Well I'm not a big film watcher and it's been around for a long while now but I finally got around to watching Underworld:Rise Of The Lycans. Maybe the franchise has just run its course, or maybe it was because it was a prequel and the story and ending had been given away in the previous films, but it seemed to be lacking something compared to the other films. Still not bad though. I've been thinking of seeing Blood:The Last Vampire, has anyone seen it or know what its like?

    The Knowing

I heard mixed reviews about this movie, but wanted to see it, so sat and watched it during a quite day with no family.
It revolves around Nicholas Cage and his son, and a piece of paper thats not only 50 years old and has been locked in a time capsule, but contains details of world events. Cue Cage running about solving puzzles like that other film where he runs around solving puzzles, only not as interesting.

Visually, it's a stunning, jaw dropping movie, but the plot is like something from a really bad night on the Paranormal channel!

The ending that follows Cage's charector is such a depressing downer, that it had me feeling a little angry, and the ending ending was so confusing, it left so many many unanswered questions.

Alex Proyas is a worth director, but I think he took on more than he could handle.

    Hi all,
Could not resist to add comment on Life of Brian - possibly the funniest movie ever made. There are scenes in that movie that never tire and still give me 'real fits'.

Brian is put in a cell with an old man , with a grey beard, who watches as a Roman gaurd spits in Brian's face. The old man declares to the gaurd that it is " Bloody Favouritism".
Brian replies that he does not think it such an honour, or something to that extent. The old man's response " I often lie awake at night dreaming of what it would be like to be spat at in the face".
That one scene still has me floored for half an hour.

Then there is John Cleese's famous Quote to ceasar ." Bicus dicus - it's a joke name sir". Ceasar replies thus " I have a fwend named Bicus Dicus." . " he has a wife too, incontinentia buttox".

I agree that most modern movies are crap. The remake of Planet of the apes is a good example. I did enjoy the original with Charlton Heston - an all time classic. In the remake, it is all special effects and nothing to back it up. When the main character arrives( Goldman, I think,) on the planet, he is not even slightly peturbed by the fact it is run by apes. Hard to see.

Hollywood lost the plot a long time ago. It now gives us nothing more than boring, predictable, production line movies. They are unrealistically boring, have few good actors and have no mystery. They are a good add for reading , or going online. Thanks, Q.

I saw the original at the theater in 1959 and remember all the girls squealing during Pat Boone's "nude scene". For the boys, the highlight was the preview for Fire Down Below.

    Hi Mike,

I watched Journey to the Centre of the Earth last night, purely because it was on TV and there wasn't a lot else on. It was the Brendan Fraser movie, and sucked! Even the wife turned around and asked...."What game are you playing on?" thinking it was a game because the visual effects sucked!
Couldn't have been much worse than the 1959 version with James Mason and Pat Boone(!)

He's only 5, so Tora Tora Tora will come at a later stage.

I loved Enemy at the Gates, I still have a lot of promo material from when it was released.
