              Happy belated one Phil.

As it happens your birthday falls on the same day as my Mum's - and she has just returned from a week on (you guessed it) theIsle Of Wight.

Lovely place. Wish I was there myself.

                Hi John-

I LOVE the IOW...I've got some great memories (well as good as they get these days!) of Lake- just along from Sandown where I had great aspirations (!) to live at one point.

The abiding memory is of a guy who ran a tea-shop alongside the beach- [He always wore a cap that looked distressingly like a U-Boat Captains!] - with his wife and served proper tea in proper pots in proper cups with proper home-made cake cut into slices on proper china plates on a proper tray.......which they trusted you to take back.........which of course you did!!!....it would have been indecent not to!

HEAVEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just soooooooo hope he's still there!

Getting off of the boat from Pompey (Or the Hovercraft if you were feeling particularly idle....or wealthy!) at Ryde and onto the ex-Underground trains was a total joy!................sigh............

Hope you had a great birthday, Philip!

One thing I find oddly charming about the folks on the IOW is the fact that they boast two rivers called the Yar. I can't work out if they did it to confuse 'foreigners' from the mainland or are just not very imaginative.

Hope we will be seeing you at the WS1888 on Saturday - shorts and tanned legs?

                    Love,

                    Caz
