    The 101-year-old was one of the last surviving female pilots from World War Two.

    I recently read a book about these brave, unsung heroes. The role of women in both world wars has taken far too long to be recognised. My neighbour was an aerial photographer who sat in the tail of the planes taking photos of the landscape below. She died about five years ago and only got her air force service medal a couple of years before her death. My own mother was in the Auxillary Fire Service but received no service medal.

    Rest in Peace ladies. I salute you all.
