    Apparently from Old French criquet "goal post, stick," perhaps from Middle Dutch/Middle Flemish cricke "stick, staff.

    The french recently said they invented the game, but although something similar may have been played in France {there is French cricket], the game as we know it was invented probably in the south east of England on open fields by children or shepherds

      thanks DK
      a friend of mine told me because in earlier times they played in fields where there were lots of crickets the insect and that it came from that. lol
