Interesting article about the photo editor for the U.S. government project of depicting the breath and width of the economic depression in the Thirties, particularly in rural areas.
He hole-punched the negatives of photos he disliked. Comparing the two versions is fascinating.

Some fascinating, and in some cases, oddly beautiful photographs of an important historical period there.
Looks like I have found a site to spend many happy unproductive hours on.
I like the collections of old photographs on YouTube. I can never see the MGM lion now without thinking of those two guys a few feet away filming and recording it.

I thought some of the photos were very evocative of the period, too.

I'm a librarian, and love to pick up new bits of knowledge, especially about history, books, authors, etc.

Hi Pat.
I'm not sure your interest truly embodies the wastrel philosophy.
Libraries tend to be places of interest for historians, researchers, genealogists and other academics.
This all sounds suspiciously vocational to me. Enquiries can certainly be dealt with easier if someone knows what they are talking about. (Increasingly rare these days I find)

I just like gawping and going "look at that!" Indeed I'm reliably informed a few more years of therapy and I will be able to cope with the sight of those workmen eating lunch on a skyscraper.

My interest was sparked by meeting a man who claimed to be a time traveller. He said he had just returned from 1910.
He said archive footage of the time isn't played at the wrong frame rate, or has missing frames.
Apparently people actually walked like that. (Joke).
