How is it possible for "them" to know how you voted? Is your name on the ballot paper?

Well how can they tell if you voted or just dumped the paper unless they see it?

The problem is if you have less than a 50% voter turn out, then the whole democratic process can be seen to be illegitimate by the non-voting majority, who are over 50%. Legally, they may very well have a point that they are being run by an undemocratic illegitimate ruling body.

Of course, that would be the claim by the outside political bodies who are anti-democratic who would use this as an example of how democracy is really just a form of authoritative rule.

In order to overcome this legal issue, and also to reflect reality (the 50+% majority just didn't vote, not that they are anti-democratic), compulsory voting overcomes this problem and therefore they can claim to be a legit democratic government.

I believe people actually voted in politicians who were pro-compulsory voting and that is how it spread, especially in Australia.

Evidently it's no big deal anymore for the POTUS to loudly proclaim this or that person's guilt or innocence while the court is in sesssion, or even if the man is literally standing in front of the judge waiting to be sentenced. Lordy, what a world.

We already do. Expenses have to be declared and they are being audited. This is how the expenses scandal came to light. The obvious problem was that the auditing process had failed in many instances. The result was that changes have been implemented (i.e., the real world equivalent to sticking cameras up the politician's orifices).

Just a quick recap and a bunch of questions regarding the sorry state of American politics. Actually only two questions:

1. How come that Trump is not yet in prison? He has committed Obstruction of Justice (and the only reason he hasn't been prosecuted is that the DoJ has a guideline that a sitting president can not be indicted), Illegal campaign contributions (for which Cohen is now in prison), Likely has committed bank- and insurance fraud (which will come out once congress has the documents from Mazars and Deutsche Bank), defrauded his own "charity", etc. etc.

2. How come Trump is not yet impeached? Actually, I know that one, it's Nancy Pelosi who is covering his butt with her "Political calculations".

The issue is simple: Trump has committed crimes in before coming to office, in order to get into office and while in office. Such a person should without a doubt be removed FROM office. If the Republican Senate want to let him off the hook for his crimes, then let THEM own it and then go on the campaign trail with their "law and order" message.

Final thoughts on Trump's latest Spying controversy in the ABC interview. it is clear that he thinks he got away with it in 2016 and now feels he can repeat his shenanigans in 2020. What he and his supporters don't get is this:

1. If a foreign country approaches you with "dirt" on a political opponent is means that a foreign nation have leverage over a prominent US politician. => Call the FBI!
2. The fact that they are approaching you, Donald, means that they now intend to use that leverage. => Call the FBI!
3. Once you accept it, they now have leverage over YOU. => Call the FBI!
4. None of the above changes anything if that information was stolen, volunteered, the result of clever research or left in the back of a cab. => Just call the flippin FBI!
5. Oh yes, and it actually IS against the law to accept something of value from a foreign government. => Call the FBI!

3 years ago, Trump said he could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and the GOP wouldn't do anything about it. He was clearly right. What I didn't think at the time is that Nancy Pelosi wouldn't do anything either.
