    RIP Carrie Fisher

Once again the curse of 2016 strikes....Carrie Fisher passed away today after suffering the massive heart attack a few days ago.....

RIP Princess, you were a hero, not just to generations of nerds who grew up in love with you (which, let's be honest guys.....we all were), but to anyone who ever had substance abuse or mental health issues, you wrote so openly and candidly about these issues, humanizing them, and always with that great wit and humor you had

You were one of a kind, and shall be missed

    RIP.

What are people going to say when celebrities keep pegging out in 2017?

The thing is, there was a unusually large number of celebrity deaths this year...more than I can ever remember.....and so many big names.....just a bad year

It could be that the Grim Reaper is simply bringing in the first major harvest of the "celeb culture" that kicked off in the mid/late 1960s, and which has grown exponentially ever since.

To me, the other side (in terms of her films) to Carrie as Princess Leia is Carrie the author and model for the Meryl Streep character in "Postcards From the Edge", which gives a fictionalized version of Carrie's relationship with her mom, Debbie Reynolds.

My sympathies are especially sharp for Ms Reynolds, who has had the sad misfortune of surviving her well-known daughter. It is not an easy blow for any parent.

As for the loss of celebrities this year (Ali, Arnold Palmer, Prince, etc.) it is possibly the worst year for such (in my memory) since 1989 when we lost Olivier, Bette Davis and a host of other figures. But that is the curse of aging - the passing of those human sign posts representing what we enjoyed experiencing by watching and hearing them. It can't be helped.

            Jeff

Carrie's death was the first thing I heard this morning, and it is sad news, particularly for her family, friends, and fans. Yet I'm glad she was spared any more pain that she has already gone through.

RIP, Ms Fisher, and your beloved creation Leia, Princess and General, heroine of the Rebellion, wielder of the Force, friend of Ewoks and Wookiees. We know your spirit lives on elsewhere, and will continue to inspire us.

I know. Sad for the family. I loved many of Debbie's movies. But she was very devoted to her daughter, and the blow must have been too much.

Must be so hard to loose a child.

I so clearly remember my great grandmother begging to be allowed replace her son at his funeral (she knew it couldn't happen, but would have gone instead of him without a seconds hesitation) for her it was her third son in 15 months, almost more than she could stand, and she was a tough old bird.

                          Damn you 2016!!!!

Is it bad that at different points in my life I had crushes on both Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher...

Even sadder news. Both seemed such lovely women, who brought a lot of joy to so many people over so many years.
