      He certainly filled a screen!

True story about Kirk's son Eric Douglas.
He was in the entertainment business but never achieved any great success.

In the mid 1990's he was performing at a club in London doing stand up comedy, and was apparently going down like a lead balloon.

Exasperated at the crowds lukewarm response to his efforts, he started berating the audience with the immortal quote:

"Don't you people know who I am?
      I'm Kirk Douglas's son!"

Stunned silence, until a member of the audience stands up and shouts:

      "No, I'm Kirk Douglas's son!"

Somebody else stands up and says:

      "No, I'm Kirk Douglas's son!"

Somebody else stands up and says:

      "No, I'm Kirk Douglas's son!"

Five seconds later, the whole audience is on their feet declaring that they are all in fact Kirk Douglas's son.

Exit poor Eric, crushed and broken

Sad to hear what happened to Eric with that audience, but he did feed them the opening for that response.

Douglas is the second one of the last major Hollywood stars of the "golden age" of sound films (1927 to 1960) who reached their centennial this year and are still with us. The other one is Olivia De Haviland. And there is the still thriving supporting actor and director Norman Lloyd.

          My favorite Douglas films:

          1) Lust For Life
          2) The Bad and the Beautiful
          3) Seven Days in May
          4) Gunfight at O. K. Corral
          5) Ace in the Hole/"The Big Carnival"
          6) Spartacus
          7) Paths to Glory
          8) Wise-Guys
          9) There Was a Crooked Man
          10) The War Wagon
