Reading James Hanratty's letters from Bedford Prison one gets the unmistakable impression that a very strong rapport was built up between him, the gaolers and the three Catholic priests who spent considerable time with him in his last few weeks. They all believed in his innocence, which speaks volumes (for me at least).
