Fascinating Robert. I notice Canadian authorities are wondering, given the age of the confessed alleged murderer, about extraditing him. But the other day that 94 year old ex Concentration Camp Clerk was found guilty of being an accomplice to murder. I wonder if this will go as far.
In the 19th Century, the best known example of such a long delayed confession was that of William Sheward of Norwich. He confessed to the police in 1869 to the murder of his long missing first wife in 1851. Oddly enough the attempted inquest on the remains of the murderered woman concluded it was not a woman but a man who was killed. Sheward was sentenced to death and hanged.
