The Green Bicycle Case

For those who are interested, I managed not only get into Leicester Castle Court, where the trial was held, but also down into the holding cells where Ronald Light was kept pending the hearing.

Ive not labelled each photo, as there are many and I think they are pretty self explanatory however if you have questions, just shout up.

Very interesting. Thanks, Monty. Not sure I have read before about the Green Bicycle Case which involved the murder of Bella Wright by a bullet to her head in Little Stretton, near Leicester, England on 5 July 1919. Ronald Vivian Light was tried for her death but acquitted. My first interest in murder was piqued on seeing the TV documentary hosted by author Macdonald Hastings, "The Other Mr. Churchill," on gunsmith Robert Churchill back in Sixties and I might have suspected the case was covered in that show but apparently not if the gunsmith was not called to testify.

Thanks Monty - certainly an intriguing unsolved case. A mystery as to who killed Bella Wright and even if it was a murder or an accident. I only first heard about the case in the mid 1980s and tend to lean toward the murder side.

Lights actions are very suspicious if innocent.

Incidently, this is the same court Colin Pitchfork, the DNA killer, had his initial hearing.

I think the most likely scenario is that Light did it but, had I been on the jury, I may not have voted guilty given the evidence, especially since it was an almost guaranteed death penalty.

I tend myself to believe that it may have been an accident despite Light's suspicious conduct afterward, but either way, I couldn't have voted to convict. There's just way too much doubt.
