  • Azaria Chamberlain case.

I wonder how many remember what was probably the most famous Murder trial in Australian History . I was 15 at time and always remember just how much it was in our lives on a day to day basis due to the huge media coverage .

Lindy Chamberlain was accused of killing her new born child but protested her innocents claiming a ''Dingo took my baby'' . Back then it certainly looked that way, with the Crowns relentless case against her and such overwhelming media frenzied attention, she couldnt be anything but guilty . Right ?

There have been some very good documentarys in the last few years that make very interesting veiwing that might just change ones opinion on the original verdict handed down .

Would be interested to here others thoughts on the topic, and if they think she was guilty or innocent. Or like me have changed their mind over the years .

My kids went to school with their daughter.

A good argument against the death penalty in my opinion.

I remember doing some of the stories for Nine News. Our reporter had a bit of a thing for her.

The main thing that I remember about the case is that, what appeared to be strongly compelling evidence of guilt, the tears on Azaria's clothing, were said in court to have been done by scissors and not the teeth of a dingo.

Another example of how "expert" evidence can be given in good faith and still be wrong.

Im not so sure about the evidence given in ''good faith'' there Barn, a lot of the crowns evidence was proven to be manufactured as to appear she killed her baby . Just like the blood they said was Azarias that they found in her family car , wasnt even human , there were many similar instances .

The Northern Territory Govenment was at the time pushing a very hard advertising campaign to bring overseas holiday makers to visit the outback , the news that dingo kills babies and take them away from camp site didnt sit well. All that mattered was the tourist dollars ,Lindy simply had to have been made to look like she killed her child .

The second inquiry was largely driven by the media.

Everingham was very popular at that time and did not require any "help" politically.

The information from my girlfriend's sister was that things were not as they seemed at that time.
