A question for those of you who know about such things:

In the 1920s, in the United States (Ohio if it matters), if a woman from a prominent family is referred to in the newspaper's society column using her given name and her married surname (Mrs. Carrie Rose, as opposed to Mrs. "Husband's name" Rose), what, if any, inferences would you draw from that? Is she likely to have been widowed? Divorced? Something else?

    Thanks!
