    Mike Dash website

Just came across this, which has online versions of papers from Fortean Times/Studies on Spring-heeled Jack, The Disappearance of Benjamin Bathurst, The Devil's Hoofmarks and The Vanishing Lighthousemen of Eilean Mór. (Use the links on the left-hand side of the page; the ones at the bottom don't work.)

Oddly the article doesn't mention the Rutan spaceship at all.

That whole incident at Fang Rock was, of course, "hushed up" by the original Torchwood Institute!

        Best wishes,

I still wish I knew what an early Schemerle was - or even how to spell it.

It's spelled 'Schermuly' and it's a kind of pistol affair used for shooting a line to (for example) a stranded ship.

Brilliant. I've never been able to discover what it was. I've even seen it suggested that it was a nonsense word made up by Tom Baker in an ad lib.

The material I mentioned above seems to have been removed now.

But for those interested in such things, Mike Dash's blog on the website of the Charles Fort Institute is worth a look (as are probably the other blogs on the same site):
