It's Christianity without the mumbo jumbo.

The New Testament was cobbled together by Alexandrian Greeks mindful of Plato's noble lie theory.

Love your enemy. How radical is that?
I confess a soft spot for Cratès and Diogène, my friend.

    • Stephen,

Are you joking or actually advocating political correctness?

Must be something like "se démerder/toucher sa bille", Stephen...
Cynics are Christlike, aren't they ?
Take poverty, for example... When Hipparchia came to Cratès, he just took all his clothes off and said : "Look, that's all I'll ever have for you..."
          ...balls !

                • LOL. When did I get around to pissing you off, Grave, or Stephen for that matter? Me thinks the grapevine that runs behind the scenes has been poisoned against me.

Well, the most ludicrous religious conspiracy theory can be found in Dan Brown's best-seller!

                          • True, Jukka.

Anyway, the New Testament is more interesting when it's kept in it's historical context. I don't pretend to be an expert, but it's an interesting subject that I've read about. Some of the things written in the Gospels have to do with political machinations in the early Jesus movement, jockeying between the Jewish Christians and the more Gentile sects, say up until about 100 CE. The apostle Paul did not speak of miracles. Those came with the later Gospels. I think people were often describing what they experienced with Jesus, as they were actual miracles, and they fell back on old Hebrew traditions and drew parallels. At least that's what I've read thus far. Once again, I'm not a Biblical scholar. Just find it interesting.

Perhaps "political" was not the right word. I should say doctrinal and whether Gentiles should have to adhere to certain Jewish laws.

                            • Hi Jukka,

While that's true, Brown was writing a fictional novel, one that I thought was pretty good. Anyone buying into it has only thereselves to blame. However, I do personally feel that Mary Magdelene was more important to Christ's ministry than is generally believed and I think it's a shame that so many people blame Christ himself for events that have occurred in his name after his death.

                              Yours truly,

There must be a problem with the French translation.
