There's a huge sandstone seam runs through south Shropshire, Bridgnorth bring a good example of cave dwellings and squatter communities. Here's some info sans Templars.

I first saw some rock shelters in Ireland on the Burren, (though not as striking as the hut the older Luke Skywalker was residing in).Pat D. https://forum.casebook.org/core/imag...rt/reading.gif

Here's a link to a load of Shropshire stuff, you can have yourself a virtual tour. I can't guarantee it'll still be working in two years, if that's your usual response time.

The historyDOTcom page linked to is no more, but it is on the Wayback Machine.
https://web.archive.org/web/20210302045107/https://www.history.com/news/is-this-a-new-templar-templeEveryone loves a good Knights Templar story. And photos of a shadowy cave complex coming out of England this week were no exception. But real history buffs say this "grotto" tells a much more modern story. These are not clues, Fred.
It is not yarn leading us to the dark heart of this place.
They are half-glimpsed imaginings, tangle of shadows.
And you and I floundering at them in the ever vainer hope that we might corral them into meaning when we will not.
We will not.
