Yep, I am actually posting fiction that is classifiable as "genuinely Rippery" as opposed to my normal "with simaler themes to Ripper". Feel free to feed back. Er, one quick note, the featured Ripperologist Fido Beggar got his name stolen from a review of a book (probably the Complete AtoZ) I once read with a slight typo of crediting the book to "Fido Begg" instead of "Fido and Begg". It struck me as a pretty cool name at the time and it seemed a shame to let it go to waste. I have never met Mister Fido or Mr Begg, and have no idea if either of them have anything in common the fictional character, but if the name comes of as a cheap pun, or is in any way offensive I will happily change it for the next draught.

It was wonderful.....I was very interested in the details on the great Corbett Soot. I do believe that there was some gossip at the time that he had a
'scandalous' affair with the golden haired italian soprano (more famous for her bed-hopping than her singing), Etta Lotta Diporrigi.

whom I'd always thought was pure Sussex Threadbear, will readily 'confess'
to having an ancestor who was a peruvian immigrant living in Whitechapel in the late 1880s.

He says that it is an oral tradition in his family that great great uncle Fenchurch, who worked in a fruit canning factory, was a key witness in the case of Mary Jane Kelly.....but as far as I can make out, it is more probable that he was plumming at the time.

I like that idea and may be using it. I had toyed with the idea of bears from darkest Peru being named after where they were found (not just stations, but Laundries, pubs, shops, etc). And "threadbear" is possibly the best name for a teddy race ever. Unfortunately one thread of the story (why Meccano became so popular with bears) has just fallen on it's face when I realised the cog and sprocket toy was not invented until 1901. Dang!

Unless the person who 'invented' it in 1901 actually ripped off the existing idea of someone else, who was less of a 'business man/bear' (and forgot to patent it and market it properly ? Maybe the earlier invention had a small but important flaw ? ( it couldn't be screwed by screwdrivers, but was designed to be screwed by claws ??).

Slight issue with this chapter, it is the awkward point where I have to dispose of good "real" suspects to make the fiction work. I would be interested in any feedback or advice on the final parts of this chapter. If there are any changes to the list of suspect names, or leaps of logic that do not ring true (The Abberline thing especially)that need to be made to avoid being unfair to researchers or actual people, let me know. I don't want fiction to upset anybody.

Okay, I doubt anybody is on tenderhooks waiting for the next instalment, but I'm obviously behind schedule on this stuff. So rather than post the next instalment I thought I would put the key points of the plot up here so there is a chance to bounce some the ideas around and see if any are so offensively bad they get me thrown out (those would be the ones not to use).


Who are the "Investigators"? The conspiracy at the heart of the book is that the "investigators" hassling bears and trying to implicate them in the murders are part of a political faction wanting to force the hand of authorites to do something about the "undesirable" flood of bears. "Jack" has infiltrated their ranks.

So who is Jack then?In the fiction Jack is a completely imagined suspect. An Operative from the Russian secret Service who was an infiltrator to the groups aiding and abetting the "dangerous" groups wanting nationalism for different parts of Russia. The sort of movements that caused hundreds and thousands to be contained or killed. He would destroy cells with a gusto that scared his superiors, and when they tried to contain him he dissapeared using his infiltration skills to "become" a Polish Jew. In London he joins the Anti-Bear movement out of habit adopting a new identity once again, and soon finds himself hungering for blood lust. To the immigrant community he is spoken of as the Winter Terror, for his appauling methods in the past decades.

So why does he stop? The Russians send spies to "silence" him and prevent their dirty work being exposed.

So, anything there that is in desperate need of being dumped? any suggestions for a better direction?
