I will admit I find 'Law and Order'(UK) quite watchable...CSI format wouldn't work here, because our Technical specialists are civilians working for the police..'Tho 'Silent Witness' is forensic based.

      Hello you all!

Well, adding some Finnish investigators too :

      Police commisioner Palmu!

OK, seriously; too much evidence has gone through too many hands...

By the way, Gman992; The Law and Order London has that "da dun" sound! (Having seen it on Finnish tv!)

I wonder, what they would add to Law and Order Helsinki; Finlandia by Sibelius?!

      All the best

DI Sam Tyler ( for the "I'm not from there!" ) teaming up with DS Hathaway from Lewis, DS Miles of Whitechapel for his knowledge of the area and people, and with the assistance of Veronica Mars and Patrick Jane of The Mentalist ... such an explosive squad I must say

          Hello all,

I would go for Detective Inspector Frost... David Jason is a natural to mix in with the East End community and get answers.

          best wishes

I am honestly surpirsed that the Torchwood Team have not fought the Ripper yet. Captain Jack probably tangled with (and got "killed") JtR at least once. Only JtR is probably an alien monster from another dimension.

A sexy Alien Monster from another Dimension. And it will be released once more. In Wales. Or something.

The show wouldn't be much good, but at least Jack could solve it...

To be quite honest; if someone will ever solve JtR case for good, I will...

                  TomTom,

Nice to see another Torchwood fan on here. Although I think Captain Jack would try to seduce The Ripper (esp. if it was Dr. Tumblety Ha ha) and then kill him.

Aside from Torchwood, I've always wondered why there has never been a Doctor Who "Ripper" episode.
I won't make any deals. I've resigned. I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed,de-briefed, or numbered!

                    Hello JTSickert!

                    I have been thinking about this option with the Why-Not-Sherlock-Vs-Ripper question too;

Maybe a bit too tough subject in the script-writers mind?!

There hasn't been a Ripper episode, but there have been two spin-off novels that I vaguely remember. One was a BBc book which I think was called "Matrix" (which ruins it all by putting the twist in the title). The Sylvester McCoy and his companion Ace arrive in Trotters Lane in the mid-1960s to discover history has changed. JFK has just been killed (by the Ripper) while visiting London, capital of Americas newest State. It turns out Jack the Ripper has never gone away, he appeared above the trenches in WW1 and stalked the trenches. So the Doctor goes back to Victorian Britain to find the Ripper, but is bonked on the head and loses his memories. Meanwhile Ace gets falls in with a circus freak show and befirends a guy who like her started a fire that killed a friend. Turns out it was all the Valeyard.

There was another book in the New Adventures: Doctor Who line by Virgin books, in which the seventh (McCoy) Doctor and a time travelling archeaologist discover that the ripper killings were perpetrated by an alien that was a human sized insect thingy. Which is nice... I'm afraid I can't remember which book it is, or much else about the plot.

But wait! On television story the Talons of Weng Chiang Tom bakers Doctor hunts a killer who has slain several girls in Victorian London. Erstwhile detective Jago and Lightfoot have noted there has been a "string" of killings in London. Could five of them been the C5?

Monk (who refuses to touch anything without a wet wipe for after) or Inspector Jack Frost...

Which TV (or otherwise fictional) Detective would you put in charge of the Ripper case for the best chance to solve it. And since it's my question I'm ruling out the use of private detectives, so no Sherlock Holmes, no Miss Marple etc.

For my money it has to be Jane Tennyson (Prime Suspect). She's intelligent, tenacious and capable of picking a good team in order to assist her. I reckon she could nail him if anyone could.

That's just my contribution for the hell of it at any rate. Look forward to hearing any other contenders.

                          Dear Ally,

Just came across this excellent thread today. I hope you don't think I ripped you off with my poll in Pub Talk. Very few votes so far but I'm glad to see Dog the Bounty Hunter is currently lying in 2nd place.

                          Best wishes,

                            Hello you all!

                            I couldn't help thinking about the following fictional character;

What would mr. Clouseau make out of it?

                            All the best

Can I reiterate what I said back in post #18 about Batman? It's recently come to my attention that there is a graphic novel entitled "Gotham by Gaslight" in which the Dark Knight actually does take on Jack the Ripper. Batman rules!

                                Hello kensei!

Well, one of the funniest ones was in "Celebrity Death Match!", presented on these boards sometime ago too!

                                The episode included Sherlock Holmes!
