    Aberconway version photographed

Earlier today I met Sir Melville Macnaghten's grandson, Christopher McLaren, and photographed the Aberconway Version. He agreed to my suggestion that my photographs of the document be placed online, so I'll be posting them once the imminent issue 124 of Ripperologist magazine is published at the weekend. The issue contains a fully researched history of the Macnaghten Memorandum.

In the meantime, here's a photograph of the page top already posted from a photocopy.

    Best wishes

        Hi Greg

Ripperologist 124 is coming and will be out within a matter of hours. It's a massive issue of some 175 pages with lots of interesting material. I think the Ripper community will be pleased.

        Best regards

        Chris

Hello Chris. Super. But a bit long for those of us old chaps with short attention spans. (heh-heh)

          Cheers.

Wow. Perhaps be careful for what one wishes is the proper sentiment.

              Many thanks.

                Hi all

You should have now received the issue. In fact there are 158 numbered pages of text or 161 pages including the covers. In my opinion, in addition to the comprehensive and fascinating investigation into the Aberconway version written by Adam Wood, the contributions on James Carnac's The Autobiography of Jack the Ripper--a review written for us by Martin Fido and an investigative article by Jim Bennett--and the detailed, exhaustive article on suspect Jacob Levy by the I'ansons, Tracy and Neil, plus may other goodies, the numerous informative reviews of new books and software written by Paul Begg are alone worth the price of admission.

                Best regards

                Chris

                    Hello Chris, Adam. Thanks.

I can hardly wait to read about Carnac. I daresay it will be magnificent. (sorry)

                    Cheers.

I enjoyed that, Lynn. (I wonder, though, if anyone outside of North America will get it.)

                        Ken & Lynn,

Carnac the Mag: He has a nose for news. (Opens envelope and reads -- What do you say of someone who uses a newspaper for a handkerchief?

                        Don.
"To expose [the Senator] is rather like performing acts of charity among the deserving poor; it needs to be done and it makes one feel good, but it does nothing to end the problem."

Does this refer to the Johnny Carson show?

Like with the “divided answer, sealed envelope“ routine, i.e.: "Over 105 in Los Angeles", appearing to refer to the weather report, but instead being the answer to the question "Under the Reagan plan, how old would you have to be to collect Social Security?"

Incidentally I happen to know this gig from my older American BF, when I once asked him why the hell David Letterman sometimes wears a turban and behaves so out of character.

Pages...does that mean when downloaded on the net? I would love to subscribe to this but I do not want to overfill my computer space, how many bytes, or whatever it is called, does this magazine take up? Is it possible it's out in print yet? It looks lovely...

btw; after reading multiple quality books on this subject, all complicated and full of details, people would regard me quite knowlegeable on the subject...but on the casebook here it is plain to see I have not scratched the surface.

                            Fascinating, as Spock would say.

                              Hello Beowulf,

Ripperologist is designed as A4 pages but published in electronic format only (PDF and Kindle).

In terms of page count this issue is 161 A4 pages, in terms of byte size it's 18mb. It should be even larger, to be honest, because of the clarity needed from high res photos of the Aberconway Version and Jacob Levy's asylum records which appear in the issue.

                              Best wishes
                              Adam
