    Hi Andy

In the late nineteenth century, as Britain was gradually losing its lead over other countries and saw itself about to be overhauled by Germany and the US, there was increasing demand for a policy of protectionism.

Bismarck said that free trade is the weapon of the strongest nation.

      Thanks Robert.

Just found out that Farquharson won the Steeplechase at Eton in 1875.

Ed. - I just started a Farquharson thread in the Druitt area so as not to continue to monopolize this thread.
