  • Ripperologist 93 - July 2008

Did you spend so long gazing at the photograph of Francis Tumblety in our June issue that you only just finished reading the articles?

Pause and take a breath, because buzzing down the line to an email inbox near you now is issue 93 of Ripperologist magazine, jam-packed with news, views and reviews.

In his editorial, Eduardo Zinna starts to pack away his summer wardrobe and warns of a change in the air, a drop in the temperature, as Autumn descends upon us and we enter the Season of the Ripper.

Is Tom Bulling the only suspect as author of the Dear Boss letter? You may not think so, but Don't Shoot the Messenger says Deborah Dobbins, before Joe Chetcuti and Maribel Reyes take us to the other side of the Atlantic with a look at the life and times of James Maitland, the Chicago newspaper man who claimed to have privileged information on the Whitechapel crimes in Loved Best By Those Who Knew Him Best.

Judging by the work carried out by Joe and Maribel, it's clear they heeded Bob Hinton's advice on the Perils of Research - never forget your ABC. Or Accept nothing, Believe no-one, Check everything...

This month's features are completed by the second of our new illustrated series of the murder sites with an-depth look down Castle Alley.

Jenni Pegg's Whitechapel Times and Chris Scott's Press Trawl lead to our reporting of the very latest news and reviews to round off the issue.

Would you like to write for Ripperologist? We'd love to hear from you - and you could win £100! Send your ideas to contact@ripperologist.info

    Best wishes,
