An excellent read, Helena, and I can imagine a lot of locals visiting these places you have mentioned.
Has Hastings changed much since Chapman lived there?

Thank you Amanda for the compliment!

Most of the buildings Chapman knew still stand in George Street today. The Elizabethan and Georgian buildings that even in his day were already antiquarian still exist. The houses in which he lodged still stand, as do his shop, the chemist in which he bought poison, the pubs he probably visited, and certainly the steps up which he must have walked every day. The steps probably haven't changed at all since his day.

These are the steps that run between his shop and his lodgings - what do you think?

I recognise those steps Helena...I've used them myself (some 9 or 10 years back now)...as you observe, I shouldn't imagine they've changed much down the years...

Congratulations on the good local publicity by the way

            All the best

                Thanks for your postings.

It's creepy to think that Chapman's shoes actually touched those old stone steps!

Of course, I've also stood on the floorboards of his barbershop, and looked down into "Willie's" cellar!

Hey Dave what were you doing in Hastings?

                  Hi Helena

Which bus company runs in Eastbourne & Hastings...and Chichester and Bognor?

                  Which bus company employs me?

                  Cheers!

                  Dave

See that missing stone on the left photo? Next to the brick wall? Do you think he ever tripped over it?

                      Yep.

And landed on his own knife.

Those two photos really give me the creeps. I am even thinking about him touching the handrail..... ewwwww.... shivers up my spine. I don't know if I ever want to walk up those steps again ....

Damnit! Why didn't I think of that?
