It's a novel about a disabled civil-servant who is also a sex addict, frequenter of prostitutes, who believes he has discovered the identity of 'Jack the Ripper' through a secret code.

I've just seen this, so apologies for resurrecting an old thread.

I'd just like to mention that Nabil Shaban (note correct spelling) is a severely disabled actor who twice played a character called Sil (to great acclaim) in 'Dr. Who' during the mid 1980s, Colin Baker era.

Thought someone might like to know this!

            Want to come full circle?

Nabil Shaban used to live very close to where I was brought up.

When I was 18 I was manager of a video rental store (yep, 18 was too young to have any responsibility and I didn't do a good job) and Nabil came in and I filled in his membership application. He's a legend.

              Is it worth reading, Jonathon?

Hold on! How could anything or anyone in a Dr. Who episode have great acclaim?

                  Mike
                  huh?

I met Billie Piper too. Such a name-dropper (me). I was in the same episode of THE CANTERBURY TALES as her.

I dunno about that, she's made a small comeback this series!
Truth is female, since truth is beauty rather than handsomeness; this [...] would certainly explain the saying that a lie could run around the world before Truth has got its, correction, her boots on, since she would have to chose which pair - the idea that any woman in a position to choose would have just one pair of boots being beyond rational belief.

Oh, hush you SF-naysayer, you! Doctor Who is one of Great Britain's most-loved SF exports!

I'd like to point out that our current Doctor was featured in a very nice role in HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE... Shooting was completed before he actually was cast as The Doctor.

And the late great novelist Douglas Adams got his start as a script supervisor/show runner on Doctor Who during Tom Baker's run... the tragically strike-shortened season, with the incomplete episode, Shada, which Adams himself wrote...
