    Lady Lytton

Hello All. Just bought a copy of "Life of Rosina, Lady Lytton" by Louisa Devey.

Anyone have information on either of these ladies?

    Cheers.

    Hi Lynn

Lady Rosina left everything to her friends Louisa and Rose Devey, with the former as executrix. The then Earl Lytton brought an injunction in 1884 to prevent Louisa from publishing the Lyttons' corrspondence, but it seems to have failed as there was a book of their correspondence published 1884.

      thanks

      Hello Robert. Thanks.

I recall that there is a letter to Charles Leland from Louisa Devey. She is upset about something.

A bit confusing at this stage.

      Cheers.

        doctor

Hello Robert. A bit of trivia. Which doctor--later a ripper theorist and profiler--examined Lady Lytton whilst in the asylum, and suggested her release?

        Cheers.

            The winnah!

Hello Robert. Bing, bing, bing. Give that man a prize. A genuine authentic replica doll of Sir Robert Anderson. Pull his string and he says, "We knew who the bloke was all along--definitely ascertained fact."

            Cheers.

Hello Robert. Shiver me timbers. That's not fair.

                Oh, well.

                Cheers.

                  What's in a name?

Hello All. The name Edward Bulwer-Lytton is bothering me. Wasn't there a Bulwer-Lytton involved somehow with Roslyn D'Onston?

                  Cheers.

                    Hi Lynn

It's been a long, long time since I was involved with the Donston theory but yes, I think Donston claimed to have been initiated into occult arts by EBL.

It was a dark and stormy night.

Hello Robert. Thanks. I knew that name was shrouded somewhere in the mists of time.

Sheesh, D'Onston is a name I'd rather not hear again.

                      Cheers.

                              private investigators

Hello All. One interesting story in the book concerns Sir Edward after his legal separation from Rosina. She was in France and Sir Edward sought an occasion for quitting his alimony. Hence he hired 2 "spies" (ie, private investigators) to "obtain" some of her letters for "leverage."

The astute maid saw through their scheme of having tea with her (the maid). Lady Lytton stationed her solicitor and 2 gendarmes in her room. The maid allowed them in and straightway they wished to "see" Lady Lytton's room. She let them in. But as soon as the PI grabbed her packet of letters, the solicitor placed him under arrest.

                              Cheers.
