A New Ripper Book

While I realise that much of ripper non-fiction is poorly disguised fiction, I don't really get intentional ripper fiction. Isn't the real thing weird and absorbing enough for anyone?

Is it just me or does anyone else feel this way?

I dunno. I always look at it like jazz, i.e., improvising on a theme. We all know the tune, but what's interesting is seeing how the various authors play around with it.
